Facebook and Insta have rolled out new features that will help users keep track of the time they spend on the two apps. The feature will appear on a dashboard that includes tracking the time spent on the app, gives daily reminders when exceeding total time limit and an option to turn off notifications.

Instagram and Facebook revealed in a blog post that the companies have a ‘responsibility’ to understand the amount of time users spend on these apps as research has proved too much social media usage leads users to experience isolation, depression, and anxiety.

Users can access these options via the settings page of the apps. However, it is too early to determine if the feature would roll out smoothly for users or gets caught up in another vague internet trend of challenging each other to spend more time on the apps.
