Zong, Pakistan’s third largest telecom service provide, has begun 4G services in the port city of Gwadar. The city has seen billions worth of investment from local and foreign sources and is set to become an economic hub in the future.
With the installation of 4G services, the investors and businessmen residing in the city will have access to the latest technology and speed that the internet has to offer at a relatively cheaper price than that offered abroad. Pakistan currently has approximately 12 million 4G/LTE users. Zong has the highest percentage of 4G users with 6.37 million in total (53%) and Zong seeks to expand on that number with this investment.
Zong is a subsidiary of China Mobile, the largest telecom service provider in the world with a user base of 873 million people. So it is natural that Zong is an integral part of the CPEC project.
Zong currently has only 31.1 million users, yet it is leading the 4G category. It has clearly recognized its strength and is capitalizing on it.
Gwadar is poised to become the Dubai of Pakistan. It has held the promise of a regional commercial, industrial and shipping hub for more than a decade now.
