Google Launches AI-tool To Disconnect People From Smartphones

Google has launched an artificial intelligence tool with an aim to help people disconnect from their smartphone screens. The AI tool is said to be capable of handling routine tasks, like calling a hair salon and a restaurant to make bookings.

Google chief executive Sundar Pichai, while addressing participants at the start of annual developers conference, said that the “AI-powered digital assistant had the potential to free people from everyday chores”.

“Our vision for our assistant is to help you get things done,” Pichai told the conference in Google’s hometown of Mountain View, California. “It turns out that a big part of getting things done is making a phone call.”

At the conference, the Google chief executive also announced the launch of an overhauled Google News venue which uses Artificial Intelligence to find trusted news sources for stories and balancing perspectives to provide fuller pictures of latest developments.

“It uses artificial intelligence to bring forward the best of human intelligence — great reporting done by journalists around the globe — and will help you stay on top of what’s important to you,” Pichai said of overhauled Google News.
