Pak-China optic fiber cable project will be completed by June 2018 at a cost of US$44 million. The project will cover the areas from Rawalpindi to Khunjerab.
This project is the result of collaborations between China’s Huawei and Special Communication Organization (SCO). Senior Project Manager, SCO, Muhammad Adil said, “This project will be helpful for strategic link between both the countries and become safest route of voice traffic between two countries.” Muhammad Adil was hopeful that awareness about IT, tourism and trade would create economic opportunities in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Started in May 2016, the project, almost 18.2 KMs portion of optic fiber cable will pass through the federal capital, 280km from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), 466km from Gilgit Baltistan and 47km from Punjab. The optical fiber cable will reach Rawalpindi from Khunjerab via Karimabad, Gilgit, Chilas, Babusar Top, Naran, Mansehra and Jary Kas.
