WhatsApp Co-Founder Steps Down


Brian Acton, co-founder of WhatsApp, announced his departure from the company to start his own non-profit. Acton co-founded WhatsApp with Jan Koum in 2009 and sold to Facebook in 2014 for $19 billion in cash and stock. His non-profit will focus on technology and communications. This announcement comes at a time when strategies were being developed to further monetize WhatsApp. Acton’s net worth at the time of his departure from WhatsApp is an estimated $6.5 billion.
