Fake license plates on vehicles has been a problem in Pakistan. The lack of timely issuance of license plates when cars are registered by the Excise and Taxation Department, is only part of the problem. The fact that there is no system that enables a cross-check on the veracity of the license plate and the lack of a department to take ownership of this verification, sit at the crux of the issue. In a country that boasts of a booming IT sector, it seems somewhat incredulous that tech companies wouldn’t be able to work with the concerned department to kill the plague. But as Naeem Sadiq, a concerned citizen and activist, explains, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of clarity in what should be done nor does anyone in the government really seem to be pushed to do so.
In this episode of TechTalk, Naeem Sadiq speaks to the TNS team about some of the issues, the simple solutions through technology that can be implemented to solve those issues along with his recommendations.
